Computer Recycling Initiative

Wilmington, DE—May 8, 2009—Employees from Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County recently unloaded 2,800 pounds of old computer equipment, collected from local businesses by MySherpa, a Wilmington-based technology support company. The outdated equipment will be recycled by Goodwill and the proceeds used to fund Goodwill’s training and vocational service efforts. For 87 years, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County’s mission has been to improve the quality of life for individuals with barriers to employment through vocational services and work opportunities and has been supported by proceeds from retail sales and donations. Last year alone, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County provided over 6,900 services to individuals throughout the region.
Environmental Community Outreach Programs
MySherpa is an environmentally conscious business and have outreach programs to minimize environmental impact of business technology in Delaware and surrounding areas.
First, conservation starts at home. In 2007 we made the following changes in our office:
- Recycled over 1 ton of used computer equipment to the Delaware Solid Waste Authority Electronic Goods Recycling Program
- Recycling electronic goods removes potentially hazardous materials from the waste stream and saves landfill space.
- MySherpa sells only Energy Star 4 compliant servers & desktops. These machines have power supplies that are 80%+ efficient under partial and full loads.
- This new computer specification is expected to save consumers and businesses more than $1.8 billion in energy costs over the next 5 years and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equal to the annual emissions of 2.7 million vehicles.
- Saving energy helps prevent global warming
- Replaced incandescent bulbs with high efficiency compact fluorescent bulbs
- We replaced an inefficient air conditioning system with a high efficiency unit in the office.
- A portion of MySherpa's office electricity is provided by renewable Wind generation
- MySherpa founder is active in promoting offshore windpower in Delaware to promote energy diversity and clean energy.
