The Pathfinder – September 2015

Fall is always an exciting time of year – new tech releases, upgrades, and a range of conferences designed to show off the latest and greatest. Here’s what caught our eye:

Apple’s iPad Pro – Undoubtedly, the highlight of September’s Apple event was the release of the new iPad. Apple’s serious foray into enterprise hardware came out with a bang as the company introduced the iPad Pro. With a wide 12.9 screen and upgraded processor, this beast of a tablet looks to take on everything from laptops to the Surface Pro to its own iPad Mini. Check out more about the new iPad Pro here.

Windows 10 – From experience, Windows 10 seems like it will be a better-than-average OS upgrade coming out of Microsoft. Many new and refined features (Cortana, Photos) have early adopters excited, however, it’s the few annoying bugs and some weird changes (privacy issues, forced updates) that make us here at MySherpa recommend that users hold off on the professional upgrade until a later time.

We normally don’t recommend that anyone with a business-critical machine go with a first release update for operation systems anyway, and for what we have seen through some users’ upgrades, we’re going to keep that opinion. With longer learning curves and new features, we anticipate that Windows 10 will be a reliable and useful OS – but we have to let everyone else catch up to it. Throw in a new browser, like Edge, and you could have a myriad of problems with your computers before things settle down. Our advice? Wait a few more patches and driver releases, and then talk to your IT professionals about making the switch. Read more about Windows 10 here.
